Abstract

This thesis aimed to study the hydration kinetics and physical and mechanical properties of Portland cement paste considering variables of an oil well in the pre-salt reserves as temperature, pressure and incorporation of NaCl and KCl. To this, the effect of two curing temperatures, which were 23 ° C and 60 ° C, the effect of various curing pressures, ranging from atmospheric pressure up to 89.6 MPa (13 kpsi), and the addition of specific amounts of NaCl and KCl, from 0% up to saturation of salts in water, was evaluated in the properties of the pastes. The results showed that the increased curing temperature accelerated hydration reactions, reduced porosity and the strength were increased. The increased of curing pressure accelerated the hydration reactions at early ages. At older ages, there was a small pore refining and there were no significant differences in compressive strength values. Moreover, the tensile strength was reduced and the fracture surface was changed. The addition of NaCl increased the dispersion of the paste in the fluid state and accelerated the hydration reactions at early ages However, for larger ages, the hydration was desaccelerated, and the strength was reduced. As for the KCl addition, the hydration reactions were also accelerated at early ages, there were significantly changes of the rheological properties and, at older ages, there were no reduction in the amount of hydrated products and in the compressive strength. Also, in pastes with addition of NaCl and KCl were verified the Friedel salt formation and salt precipitation in the pores.
