Abstract

This research has the objective of showing a study of tensile strength, resilient and permanent deformations under repeated loading, fatigue testing, of cylindrical specimens of Marshall test, of Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA). Average granulometric curve of band specified by german standards 0/11S, 2001. Two binders used: CAP 50/60 (A) and AMP (add 6.5% of SBS polymer powder, to CAP 20 binder) (B) and three types of fillers: limestone dust + 1,5% special of hydrated lime CH-I (1), portland cement CP II E 32 (2) and granitic rock dust finer than 0.075mm (3); on the whole six combinations of binder and filler, for the fame stone matrix (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B). Used pellets of ARBOCEL cellulose fibers prepared with me-third of asphalt, 0.3% by weight of total mix, to avoid binder draindown, and segregation during transport and placement. No advantage of AMP binder over CAP 50/60 binder was detected in tensile strength tests by diametrical compression, for the three fillers. Resilient modulus insignificant effect had the filler type for the convectional CAP 50/60, but some advantage noticed for the AMP and limestone dust filler. In dynamic axial compression test (dynamic creep) the mixture with AMP and portland cement filler presented the smallest permanent deformation. In fatigue testing under diametrical compression at 25°C, a slight advantage was observed for the stip using limestone dust filler. The mixture with CAP 50/60 and rock dust filler was the most influenced by stresses in fatigue testing. All of the tests were accomplished in cylindrical specimens shaped in the compactor Marshall with 50 blows per face and short term aging.
