Abstract

Much about the dynamics and variability of oceanographic parameters in interannual scales for the South Atlantic Ocean is still unknown, particularly what concerns the sensibility of South Atlantic and of its currents in relation to the climate change scenarios. Thus this work aims to investigate the behavior of volume and heat transports patterns associated to the Brazil Current (BC) facing the A1B emission through the comparative analysis between results from four AR4 global climate models (GFDL-CM2.1, UKMO-HadCM3, CCSM3 e MIROC3.2(Hires)). The integrated volume transports and the advective heat transports were calculated for two zonal sections (25ºS and 30ºS) and then the Wavelet Analysis was used in order to identify the interannual variability of the temporal series. Based on this results a period in the A1B scenario was chosen so that the atmospheric and oceanic variables could be analyzed in order to get answers relating to the possible forcings that would be the cause for the observed changes. The results show that, when submitted to the conditions of A1B emission scenario, the volume transports of BC in 30ºS, and the heat transports in 25ºS and 30ºS were intensified. This increase of heat transport southwards can be the cause of the positive temperature anomalies observed in the region of Brazil-Malvinas Confluence as well as the cause of the increase of oceanic heat content in the studied regions. The results also show that the variability of these oceanic transports was mainly associated to frequencies that were lower than the ones observed in the current climate.
