Abstract

The study of the superficial erosion in the State of Rio de Janeiro is of great environmental importance, considering the prevalence of the tropical climate in mountainous areas, soils a little thick and intense vegetable production for food production. The objective of this work consists of the study of the soil losses for superficial erosion and their hydrologicals components, in hillside with 60% of steepness, under use of the system remaining in the Atlantic rainforest in fallow forest. The study was accomplished in a watershed in the municipal district of Bom Jardim, during approximately four years, where experimental portions were installed for the measurements of these processes and subsequent calibration of mathematical models. They were registered around 40,0 ton/ha/years of soil losses in the portion under perennial cultivation and 8,0 ton/ha in the portion with a year of fallow forest, with critical period of the erosion between September and March. The model USLE, with revisions proposed by Nearing (1997), it indicated a significant difference among the measured values in field and simulated for the model, in spite of R2 = 0,98. The model WEPP in this study, analyzed only the simulation of isolated rainfall events, and even with a R2 = 0,60, it obtained a difference no significant among the data of the model and total of 40 events observed in the portions. In spite of the conservationist practices adopted in the area, it was verified that the time used in the cultivations and fallow forest in the portions, they can hinder the maintenance of the natural resources in these places, committing the stabilization of these hillsides.
