Abstract

A study was developed in order to establish rainfall thresholds for mass movements on the highway BR-116/ RJ.The performed study foccus in landslide events from 2008 to 2013.The region physiology analysis where the highway is, as well as, the climate aspects and mechanisms of embankment instability supported the road division in three stretches of analysis. The first stretch was subdivided into three smaller segments, due to its large extension, besides the limitation of the rainfall data. In this first stretch, the best correlation that was established between rainfall and landslides was the time intensity and the rainfall accumulated in the 96 hours prior to the event, while on the second stretch, it was the time intensity and the daily accumulated rain fall. In the third stretch, it was not possible to establish clearly a rainfall threshold that could well represent the observed events.
