Abstract

In this work a methodology for considering the contribution of initial conditions in frequency-domain analysis of problems governed by the scalar wave equation, using the Boundary Element Method (BEM), is presented. Initially, the basic equations and fundamental concepts used in the development of this work are presented, including the Green’s functions employed as the fundamental solutions of the BEM. Analysis in the frequency domain for the cases in which the external forces are time -dependent are carried out by means of the Discrete Fourier Transform via Fast Fourier Transform algorithms. The proposition of an algorithm, identified as Initial Conditions by Pseudo-Forces (ICPF), for the inclusion of initial conditions in frequency domain analysis of wave propagation problems is the principal contribution of this work. Considering the linear properties of these problems, the contributions from the initial conditions can be studied separately, and added to the final response. The methodology describes how the initial conditions of potential and its time derivative can be substituted by related pseudoforces. The generation of such pseudo-forces is the object of a detailed discussion. The results suggest that the proposed formulation is very attractive for future developments.
